Saw the previews for it, and I can't wait to see it!
Anyone got some spoilers for me on this movie?

Eh, I've already seen A New Hope (AKA Star Wars). They are, in fact, the same movie.

I think the only thing that could possibly get me to see this is Jeremy Irons is in it.
And that's really not enough unless I have nothing else to see :\

I can't even think of a dragon/fantasy type movie in recent history that hasn't been a complete and utter failure. The only one that comes to mind at the moment that was decent was that animated one, A Flight of Dragons. I read the book for that, good stuff.

Yeah, it's a book series. I never read it but I've heard pretty good things, I think.

Well, the special effects look good, hopefully the story is as good as the effects.

I was not kidding, the story is A New Hope. If you like Star Wars, and Fantasy, you will like this. There are websites dedicated to the depths of plagiarism in Eragon,
http://anti-shurtugal.com/ being the most prevalent.
I expect the movie will be better than the book, since more people will work on it. Paolini's writing style was pretty bad.

It looked like just about the gayest movie ever.

I'm thinking the complete opposite. Paolini is a fantastic writer for his age and the Eragon series is very well written. The movie will probably be disappointing.

The book was fun to read, but yeah this looks pretty bad from the previews.

I just finished the book the other day, I liked it a lot. I... don't want to even hear about this, or watch it, really. I don't think it can do anything that damage my idea of the story in my mind.

I'll admit it reads pretty quickly, but his style got boring to me fast. It's not as smooth as a lot of other books aimed at younger readers (Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, the Shannara books, etc), and he switches all the time between stiff and colloquial diction. I haven't read the book in a couple of years, though, so I might not be remembering it that well.
My biggest problem with the story, really, was that it was not just riddled with cliches, it was composed entirely of them. There wasn't a single twist or turn in the story that I didn't know was coming without even trying to guess it. And it has always seemed that the series is marketed entirely on the age of the author, as if that's something people should take into account when reading the story, not how good it is. Not to mention the dude's a pompous sack of ass, if you've ever encountered an interview of his.
I know what it looks like, but I'm not trying to make you dislike the books, I just have a hard time believing people like them much>_>

Eh, I got nothing else too look forward to in the whole fantasy adventure movies(well Harry Potter, but that doesn't come out for ages). I always wanted to read the books, so I'm looking forward to the movie.
At first I thought it looked lame, but after all, I'm easy to please when it comes to movies.

Meh. Call me when they make a movie version of Dune worthy of the name. LOTR sets the bar pretty damn high, both in the theater and on paper.

Yeah, for his age he's... average. I find it personally offensive that such a thoroughly derivative, mediocre work has not only found huge literary success, but a fuckin' movie.
Screw Paolini.

Just saw the movie, really pissed that asshole Panolini is making money. You could clearly see the Star Wars parallels as you watched the movie, it was sad.

If you think that is bad, the whole premise of the book was ripped off from Anne McCaffrey who wrote a series books in the 60s and 70s about dragonriders who were psychically connected with the dragons they ride. How the fuck did this piece of shit get published (let alone made into am ovie) and why isn't Paolini being sued out of existence for it?

You mean the Chronicles of Pern? Well I know initially the book was published by Paolini's parent's company (wouldn't suprise me if they were smart enough to realize that no publisher would pick up the rip-off novel) but again, it did eventually get picked up by a larger distributer.
I figure, if the series gets a little more popular (like Harry Potter popular) then there will probably be lawsuits abound.

Reading through the disgruntled fan's posts on IMDB I ran across a comment that still makes me laugh. Someone complaining about the movie expressed a hope that, like Dune, Eragon would be remade in 20 years or so. It cracks me up that people think anyone will actually care about Eragon decades from now.
I saw the movie a few days ago. It's... an average fantasy movie, I suppose. But that doesn't say all that much. It's better than, say, a SciFi original movie, but worse than most things I've seen in theaters recently.
