Full Version: Good websites for finding new music.

Add any websites that often have new bands/songs. For some new indie I usually search here:

Pitchfork
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/

I don't use them so much anymore, as they only seem to promote already semi-famous bands or bands you'll never hear about again and can't pronounce.

Blisspop
http://www.blisspop.com/

Blisspop is a monthly DJ show in some dance club, or something like that. Even though I'm not entirely sure what they/it is, I do know they supply me with some good, new tunes. Click on Playlist (the headphones on the right, second picture down) and you'll get a nice smattering of free, new indie and dance musics.

Video-C
http://www.video-c.co.uk/

Video-C is a British website that often has new bands and artists just hitting in the U.K. Typically they get the good stuff MUCH earlier than us, allowing you to TRULY be indie and find things before your friends and MTV. Over the years, I've found Lily Allen, The Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs and many others on Video-C WEEKS before I hear them on TV or the radio. Do some digging though, the good stuff's not always on the front page.

Ender Wiggin
http://www.pandora.com/

Ultimate, free way to find and listen to new music. Makes suggestions based on your interests and you can listen to full versions of songs and tell it which ones you don't like. From there it adapts your playlist on the fly.
Corpus
www.stereogum.com

It's a blog and has links to other similar music blogs.

Blah took what I was going to post. It is a nice site though. I haven't used it much lately though, just been listening to my local radio station lately.

Yes, everyone knows about this one, but I thought I'd put it down for completeness.

www.progarchives.com -

Purely for progressive rock - though their inclusion of Krautrock, post-rock and jazz fusion as sub-genres of prog is a bit odd to say the least. Also their lack of a new prog (bands like Muse, Pure Reason Revolution, Dungen etc.) category is also a bit odd. There're a few prog bands which aren't on there and a few bands on their which it's really stretching it to call prog (Rhapsody and Dir En Grey come to mind...) but generally it's a great resource. Don't put TOO much weight on their ratings though.

Anyway, they have a top 40 (albums) for each subgenre of prog (which will give you a great starting point to prog, or its subgenres. Some of these things are hard to find, but I have most of the stuff on the top 40 for each genre shared on the hub.). They also have randomly picked reviews on the front page, which will expose you to some stuff you'd not normally look at.

Yeah, they do have some odd bands on there. But as you said, great resource.

Can't forget about MySpace either. Just found a few bands yesterday that I'm checking out.

You can also hack it so as to save every song that is played, though only 128kbps . . .

Not sure it's worth it then, better off finding them using P2P.

Post the method anyways though?

Pandora is a beautiful site. Nate discovered it somehow quite some time ago. I just started playing with it last night and I've already got a two page list of songs to download. I was actually coming here to post it, but...yeah.
Auron
Last FM is better IMO, especially because it has foreign music while Pandora does not.
Asuka
Holy shit pandora is awesome, thanks guys

No one has said www.allmusic.com yet, wowzers.

Here are a few sites Nate and I use to find stuff.

http://adtunes.com/forums/
I made a topic about it yesterday. You can search for music from commercial's there.

http://skreemr.com/
Search for and find music hosted on various sites (like bogs and stuff). You can listen to them and download them straight from SkreemR.

http://www.myspacemp3.org/
Enter a band's myspace name and you can download the songs they have uploaded on myspace.

http://www.seeqpod.com/
Kind of like Pandora, in that you can enter a song title or band name and find music that is similar. You can also enter a band and get tons of songs by just that band alone.

Just found a new one...

www.foxytunes.com/planet

You don't need the foxytunes add on (for firefox) to use the site, but I would recommend it anyway, as it is awesome.
maniackjr
http://www.imeem.com is pretty good. No hassle of downloading, no pop ups, but uploads of music required to be in mp3 format. still good.

What's that music recommendation site that's like a web? You type in a band or artist and it brings you to a part of the web and it has other similar bands surrounding it.

Not exactly allmusic.com but close enough.
