As a Broncos fan, I am laughing just because there is so much history between the Broncos and him (mostly bad). I still smile every time I hear the words "The Drive."

However, it is still sad to see him get canned after a stellar season with such a young QB leading the team.

I think he's a hell of a coach, myself, and he's gonna lead a team to a Super Bowl Championship before he retires/dies.

He wasn't really responsible for the playoff disaster. He didn't even call the plays, if I have my info right. The only real mistake he made was that challenge, but given the game-changing nature of "the play" (INT + fumble on 4th down), it almost had to be done.

Apparently that isn't why he was fired, though. According to ESPN (talks out of its ass a lot, but eh), it was because all the assistants/coordinators left. It's come to light that Marty was more of a figurehead than a real, involved coach. Not saying he wasn't important, but he supposedly relied on underlings more than many coaches. So after the playoffs, your "real" coaches leave, and only the guy who your GM hates and is regarded as a playoff choker remains. If the rumors are true, they don't have a lot to lose by firing him and a lot to gain (like a good HC/GM relationship).

Well, I think his death warrant has just been signed.

Yep. Where's he gonna go? Nowhere this season unless some brave franchise fires their coach this late just to get Marty hired. Next year...? He isn't going to go anywhere that doesn't need rebuilding, and while he's a good coach I don't really see him turning a franchise around and winning the big one with it before he decides to call it quits for good.

I can see him coaching a college team this year and coming back to the NFL next year when there are coaching vacancies.

Its a good move, i think. His playoff record speaks for itself, almost 3 times as many losses as wins in the playoffs.
I said since the playoff loss this season he should go and Mora brought in. I think he'd fit nicely.

The Chargers finished with the best record in the NFL, though. The playoffs are nothing special in terms of play...you're still playing football just like if it were the regular season, only a loss is more of a big deal. Seriously, when teams don't play with the strategy that got them there in the playoffs, people bitch and moan about how they "should have stuck with what works," but when Schottenheimer sticks with what worse and barely loses (Be honest, it's not like they got blown out...they lost a close game in the playoffs.) he's suddenly a shitty coach.

No. You're not just playing football like it were the regular season. It's the playoffs. It's pulling it out when it counts most, like the ones he always loses.

And they didnt stick with what got them there. After half time, LT barely got the football, even though he had a great first half and they were leading. He's a good coach, but he just chokes when it counts the most.
