I'm on my secondary computer that runs on 256 megs of ram and is about 7 years old. This thing is shit, but until my normal computer is back up and running, its all I have. Woe is me.

In what way? It might be an inexpensive fix.

It goes from HP screen to windows screen, back to HP screen, and when I try system restore it freezes.

Mash F8 at bootup. When the list of options appears, select "Disable automatic restart on system failure." then when the blue screen of death pops up, jot down the error up top (it'll be in all caps and underscored, i.e. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA) and the stop codes at the bottom. (They'll be in hex format, i.e. 0x000007B)
EDIT: Here's a fancy pic for you.

Okay, volsnap.sys is corrupted. It's an XP service and rather necessary, from what I've read.
What you need to do is somehow replace the bad file with a clean one.
You can get a working copy of the file
here.
What you will likely need to do, since you have two systems, is take your hard drive out of your main system and set it to the slave on the one you're on now. Boot up, and replace the file with the good copy. (It'll be in \Windows\System32\drivers) Pop the drive back in your better system and cross your fingers.
Here's a guide on adding a second hard drive if you're unsure of the specifics.
Good luck.
