So I have a Thanksgiving tradition with my neighbor, we hang out, smoke a few bowls, I listen to her ramble on about family drama, she puts up with my music. It's generally good times. Well tonight our tradition impeded with my ability to make it to work on time, so I called my boss ahead of time and gave him this doozy of an excuse.

"So I did a stupid thing. I was sitting in my house alone all day and realized I should at least eat some turkey. So I went to the store and bought one, but the damn thing was frozen and it's not even done cooking yet. As soon as it's done, I'll wolf it down and fly up there."

"No, I'm not going to make you race through your Thanksgiving turkey just to come in here, why don't you take the night off, and just come in on Sunday."

It's a one-shot deal, but it worked. And I'm happy. Tryptophan and marijuana does not a good night of work make.

So what's the best excuse you've given to get time off of work/school?

The funny part is there's no reason for me to be there. Nightly, I justify my paycheck by trying to look busy. Technically, I'm the network administrator for a logistics/trucking company. I usually come in at 7pm and work until 1am, sitting in my office chatting on AIM, playing with SQL Server and trying to reprogram his in-house software, and listening to moe. But in reality, my job serves two purposes: First, being my boss' friend; listening to him ramble on about politics, watch football with him, drink beers on Fridays, shit like that. Second, being the technical side of his budding web venture of repackaging herbal suppliments and passing them off as erectile dysfuction pills. My job has absolutely nothing to do with day to day operations. (My network isn't even live yet, they're still working off the old setup.) The only goals or deadlines I have are those that I set for myself. The only reason I was supposed to come in tonight was to keep the boss company and work off some of the hours I'm missing because of the moe. concerts this weekend. (I'm salaried) Instead I'll make up some of that time on Sunday.
