Because I haven't been on 404/GD in a couple years, I don't really know what's going on? Anyone care to inform me?

As far as I know it isn't really known. AOL bought Gamedaily, stuff was cool for awhile, then one day, bam the forums are offline.

We don't know, nor do we care atm.

I'm not sure what's going on with Gamedaily. Justin says that the forums are being 'ported', and that this was as cryptic to him as it is to the rest of us. Most of us assume that they are being assimilated into AOL.

As IO said, many of us don't care, and are content having a community of our own agan.

Ah, okay. I still hang in the AIM Errors chat almost all of the time I'm online, but no one there seemed to know either. I'd like to stick around, I need a new place to waste time.

Yea, even if the other forums came back, I would see no reason to go back there. I've posted more here in a couple of days, than I have in weeks over there.

Lupus and I are horrendously busy with university stuff.

Why do they give us six boxes on the form to fill - and look around, be interviewed by, receive tons of paper from, etc - why...

I don't understand. Do you mean the old GD boards? We have boards and we are making an effort to find everyone from the boards so what more do we need? I miss the old posts yeah but with a borked search function who really looked unless they used Google (which we can still do)

I think this is a really great chance to start fresh if we choose. This can be whatever we make of it, it doesn't have to be a temporary holding pen.

Just because your board died, doesn't mean this will. Different times, different group of people, etc.

It doesn't mean it will for sure, but there's certainly a good chance. It's happened to a lot of boards, not just the two I've been invovled with.

That's the reason why we shouldn't look at this as a backup, but as a replacement. That's probably the reason why half the activity is questioning what happened and there is a reluctance to actually post some content.

Well maybe, but this place won't have some shit GD did. I mean some people will never get this link, and some of the people who don't will be missed. It seems to be preferable to have the real thing back. I mean invariably someone will get left behind and we'll lose yet more members. GD was going decently for us until it disappeared.

Either way though, when we find out whether or not GD is down for good, we'll know what's up with this place soon after.

Well if the real thing comes back then we can get those important users to migrate over, we can also glean from the good shit on GD and add it to our content here. We need people to want this to happen to make this work, not those who say: "oh this is good for now, but in 2 weeks, you'll see what happens."

I think more of the "missed" people are actually here than we ever had on GameDaily. Also, what exactly did GD have that we don't right now?

Well I have been an error since 404 got started, I have seen it go under a few times, and with it many many side projects and boards. I've seen countless members come and go as well... and while I do love 404 I have always found that when ever it "goes down" and these kinda boards pop up, thats when the community really is at its best.

No doubt if and when GD comes back there will be a mass migration back home, and this board will die or become a spin off living in its shadow. I hope this is not the case though. I would love to see 404 survive here though. Theres just something about the whole IPB that makes a forum a forum

I think I had a little more time with GD than 404. I didn't really think it was bad until near the end, a little before the AOL crap (and, of course, since). This place is pretty decent, but I don't get any kind of zany "404 vibe." I would like to see it grow with more and more old members, but that doesn't mean I won't go back to GD as well when it reopens.
