I'm kicking things off in style:

Al's first shows back since the tendonitis issue a few months back. It's going to be an epic weekend.
In other news, Langerado announced their lineup for this year, it's downright sick.

I saw Joanna Newsom last Friday but she cut her set short because she got pissed for some reason.
I was gonna see Lichens and Sapat but the headliner on the bill (Bonnie "Prince" Billy) sold all the tickets.
I'm seeing Dead Child and Lords this weekend.

Oh man. Prepare to shit yourself. I saw that in August and it was seriously one of the greatest shows (if not the greatest) I've ever been to. I had high expectations for it, but Roger Waters even surpassed those.
In the past few months I've gone to see Roger Waters and Del tha Funkee Homosapien/A-Plus. They were both pretty kick ass shows. On the 18th, I'm going to see GZA since he's having a free 18+ show in Baltimore.

I'm debating on whether or not I should go see them in Brooklyn in Feb. I'm sure I will end up going but a year ago or so when I decided they would never tour I also decided I only like How Strange, Innocence and that the rest of their stuff was pretty overrated.

Yeah, they're playing Radio City. I was originally planning on going, I was going to stay with family on LI, but the idea of navigating Manhattan by myself on New Year's Eve is frightening, so I opted to go to Denver at the end of January instead. (I'd rather see them at the Fillmore than RCMH anyway) And thanks to that announcement today, I get to see them locally that Wednesday, also. (I'm going to have so many copies of the Conch I won't know what to do with myself, lol. I already pre-ordered my copy, and I'm getting one both in Denver and Chicago.

) My New Years is going to be Umphrey's McGee and North Mississippi Allstars in Chicago on the 29th, then my old boss has me on the VIP list for a Local H show here in my suburb on NYE proper. I don't even like Local H, it's just nice to be on a list and be able to get tanked and stumble home if need be.
This announcement also set my mind at ease about missing NYE:
QUOTE
RADIO CITY TAPING POLICY :
moe. will drop its soundboard policy for their New Year's Eve show at Radio City Music Hall. They will offer as many board patches as space allows them to. These will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Normal audience taping is of course allowed.
So I'll still have a high quality copy of the show to blast at high volumes, and I won't have to mess with the NYE Manhattan crowd.

I saw Jack Rose and Peter Walker last night and there probably only 40 people at the show, 10 of which were Peter Walker's family.
The two of them are incredible. Jack Rose is the best guitarist I've ever seen live, I almost teared up during his set. Peter Walker is in his mid-60s I think and he's still playing like a virtuoso, bless him. He told stories of when he was studying in Spain and was almost killed by gypsies and he smiled throughout the whole set and you could tell he was so passionate about what he was playing. He got almost a 5 minute standing ovation/applause deal at the end. I'm really glad I didn't miss that.

Isis/Jesu/Torche in March.

http://www.jambase.com is where I usually go. Their in-house content is driven more towards the jam scene, but they do a pretty good job of listing shows from most genres. I'm on their mailer, too, so I get notifications of upcoming shows without having to go to the site.

So the show was interesting.
The first band was some metalcore band I barely remember it just went downhill from there. The second band, Book of Black Earth was some awful attempt at a black metal band. Absolutely pathetic.
The third band, Zeke was probably the worst band I've ever seen live in my life. They tried to be some Bad Brains-esque speed punk band but just came off as some redneck Tasmanian Devil buttrock. Not to mention their last song was about 15 minutes long and they ended it about 5 times, only to start it over again. And the lead singer didn't even know what songs they were playing.
3 Inches of Blood was excellent and made it worth the money. They're funny as hell and they put on a really fun set. The crowd was retarded, full of weirdos in overalls and stupid little scene kids, but at least I got to see one good band.
