I'm currently in the recovery phase of getting treatment for my herniated disc. I had a chance to see a physical therapist twice before I had to leave home for school again and I was given a set of exercises to continue over the next 6 weeks while my back heals. The exercises were all ab and lower back strengtheners to help prevent further injury or a repeated herniated disc down the line. However, one of the major symptoms of a herniated disc is hamstring tightness because of the pain down the leg caused by the disc pushing on the sciatic nerve.
Anyways, all that aside, I was never given any sort of hamstring stretches by my therapist. So I'm coming in here for advice on some light stretches I can do to start. The majority of the pain associated with my HD is gone, but the inflexibility that prevents me from starting some normal physical activity again is stil there. I know a lot of heavier stretches but I am SO inflexible right now that I can't even think about doing them. I need stretches done from a standing position or from lying down like on a bed, I CANNOT do stretches during which I am seated because of the stress it puts on my back and the fact that that is my worst position right now concerning flexibility.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
