What was it? Near 150 Million over 8 years with the cubs? Sounds good. He is good, but they really need pitching before more offense, otherwise they will be the Yankees.
kyle
8 years 136 million.

Knowing the Cubs luck, he'll blow out his knee or just not produce.

Stupid fucking move. I'm a die hard Cubs fan, been following their hapless asses since the day I was born. This is the dumbest move since resigning Kerry Wood a few weeks ago.

First of all, Pinella wants him to lead off. Wonderful, he has more strikeouts than 90 other major league starters. We might as well have kept Paterson for that kind of production. Then the Cubs go and overpay the hell out of him. Fifth biggest contract in baseball history? For a guy who, statisticaly, is the worst middle infielder in history and will be playing his third position in as many seasons...when they should have been overpaying for guys like Zito, to not only bolster their pathetic rotation, but to keep him away from the other big dogs in the NL. (mainly the Mets) Speaking of defensive ineptitude, this could be the worst defensive outfield in the history of baseball. Floyd, Jones, and Soriano...every Cubs pitcher will be wearing a cross around their necks and rubbing it for luck every time a ball goes to the outfield. You know that game fans play at minor-league games between innings where people spin around a baseball bat a few times, get all dizzy, then try to race each other to first base? That will be the Cubs outfield next season. It should be exciting.

Pinella wants him to lead off? Why the hell would you bat a guy with 46 home runs at the lead off spot?
Lurker
you bat him at lead off because his stats show he hits better at that position, they've moved him down the order in Washington and he doesn't produce as well for some reason

thats just wayyyyyyy too much money for a player who is already 30 years old and for a team that need starting pitching over offense (they resigned Aramis Ramirez and Derek Lee should be back to 100% next year and Felix Pie should really be called up soon) all they really have in the way of starting pitching is Zambrano and Rich Hill who hasn't reached his full potential yet and probably won't for another year or two until he develops a third and fourth pitch and manages to get good with them. Truthfully the team doesn't need Zito, they already have an ace and it would be more practical and economical adding Vicente Padilla and even Mark Redman to the team.
