I'm assuming we will spam the heck out of this link on Gamedaily once the forums are back up and many aolers will join but only a few will stay here...

Shawn
I guess...

I dunno, if that's what we're going for why not just go back to GD? (Of course I'm sure I will also go there, but we don't know how it's going to be changed, or anything)

I think this was sort of intended as an inbetween 404, but it is reminding people of a lot of the good things. We do need some more members, but I think most people would rather have more errors back than go around spamming the site.

I didn't like GD and I like it less as AOL. Going to the 404 forums has a MUCH nice ring to it. I say we market the name
Mormegil
We already have a pretty good flow of older errors coming into this site. This site in my mind was intended as a backup board, but I guess in the back of my mind I've been wanting to do this for a long time now. Now that it's already grown so quickly, why would we want to go back? There's no limit to the potential we can achieve with our own board, our own server, our own rules, and IO and I actually LIKE making changes to the site and keeping things fresh.

Anywho, lots of us have myspace accounts, that might be a good avenue to attract new members. I'd like to think more on this one right now but I'm trying to devise a system for contests, promotions and prizes. This is exciting, hopefully it will work out.

Now if only we could port our post archives over here...

AOL is probably raping the shit out of them as we speak.

I for one, would like to see this as more of a closed community. But then again it is the internet.

As long as we can maintain these boards why not stay here?

That question has been asked over by many, but still many have thought about going back for stupid reasons like post count, position of power, etc...

It's not the same, really. I mean every time 404/GD goes down this shit happens - to a varying degree of success. But we've always gone back. Unless you stayed at EO or whatever the fuck that gay shit was, but if you didn't nobody cared about you anyway.

People will always go back, no matter how bitchin' your alternative forum is. Who knows why.

By now, I would expect everyone to be bored of those two things.

Or maybe it's just me and my ADD. Oh look, balloons.

Oh the conversations I've had with some, lead me to believe otherwise.

Personally I think that the forums aren't returning. We did nothing for AOL or GameDaily the entire time. It was just database space wasted in their eyes.

Besides, forums.gamedaily.com just redirects to gamedaily.com.
Mormegil
Most of the major spinoff boards came about as a result of the original 404 going down. When gamedaily went down, there were spinoffs, but the level of discontent and stagnation hadn't grown to nearly the level it was at during the months after AOL took over.

Honestly, what's waiting for us back at the old boards when they come back? If they're the way they were before, then not much the way I see it. If they're different, well only time will tell.
Humble Bukakke
Well Justin does have the only back-up...

EDIT: Damn Morm, you edited your post before I could respond. >_>
Mormegil
I doubt whether justin has a backup of the gamedaily/AOL forums
Humble Bukakke
He said he did when we first started talking about moving back to forums.filenotfound.org.

I still don't get why there's an apparent need to have all of our past posts back. It's not like we posted anything incredible and mindblowing.
Zebrahead

Not worth speculating about. If GD brings them back, we'll probably go back like we always have. If not, we'll stay here. I don't really care either way.
Landak
What about the nice happy "Backup Database" option that is in the Admin CP somewhere? 10-meg .sql files are funny....
Dagger Jane
I would much rather just keep this one as the permanent place to be. We can recruit new members, it just might take time. GD sucks. AOL sucks. 404 only moderately sucks. The answer is clear.
Dagger Jane
Um...also...

There is a myspace group for 404. I have a feeling a few people in the group don't know about "404daily." Should I post something, or are there people no one wants here, or are we trying to get everyone here who was on 404, or...what?

I would say go for it.

Okay, cool. I'll do it now. biggrin.gif
